Fallbrook Technologies Inc. Introduces NuVinci® CVP Developer’s Kit At INTERMOT 2008

– Provides vehicle designers with easy, low-cost way to implement continuously variable drivetrain technology –

(Cologne, Germany, October 8, 2008) – Fallbrook Technologies Inc. (Fallbrook), announced today the availability of a developer’s kit for its revolutionary NuVinci continuously variable planetary (CVP) drivetrain. The announcement was made at the INTERMOT International Motorcycle and Scooter Fair in Cologne, Germany..

The NuVinci booth at Intermot is Hall 4.1 - Stand A 066.

The NuVinci CVP Developer’s Kit enables builders of electric-, gas-, human-powered and hybrid vehicles to integrate easily the NuVinci drivetrain into their designs. The kit includes NuVinci CVP, shift actuator, programmable controller, wiring and mounting hardware. The kit also includes software tools, design instructions and technical documentation.

The base price of the kit is U.S. $595 plus shipping and handling and will be available in December. To obtain more detailed information and to register to receive purchasing instructions, go to www.fallbrooktech.com/developerkit.

With environmental concerns, and the cost and availability of fossil fuels an increasing challenge, consumers are searching for vehicles that offer a genuine alternative to gasoline-powered transportation. Unfortunately, limitations on speed, range and hill climbing capability have, until now, kept these vehicles from achieving practical, real-world performance and mainstream acceptance. The NuVinci CVP addresses these limitations. It is affordable, advanced technology that improves performance by keeping the vehicle’s engine - gas, electric or human – working in its optimal range.

The NuVinci CVP Developer’s Kit is part of Fallbrook’s continuing effort to stimulate innovation in vehicle design. “To best expand the market and meet practical consumer demands, a new generation of vehicles must be designed and built,” said William Klehm III, president and CEO of Fallbrook Technologies. “That kind of innovation starts with individuals and small companies who have the courage to think differently. Our Developer’s Kit is designed to make their job easier, accelerate development and offer a solid competitive advantage with a new class of CVT technology for two-wheel vehicles.”

The NuVinci CVP uses a set of rotating and tilting balls positioned between the input and output components of a transmission that tilt to vary the speed of the transmission.  Tilting the balls changes their contact diameters and varies the speed ratio.  NuVinci technology is the most practical, economical and universally adaptable continuously variable transmission (CVT) for human-powered and motor-powered vehicles and machines. Other commercial implementations are in various stages of development.
